How to Deep Waves: CURL TUTORIAL

Updated: Feb 22

I made this tutorial back in 2021. I love the results of this curl tutorial so I wanted to share it again. Anyone can do this with a little bit of practice. If you're not used to using a curling iron I know it can be intimidating. Nowadays there are so many different tools to help you achieve your desired look. However some of the most basic "rules" still apply.

  1. The size of your curling iron will determine how big or small your curl will be.

  2. The amount of hair you take to put in that curling iron should be about the same diameter as your iron.

  3. In this video I recommend leaving the iron in your hair for about 12 seconds in total. However, this was a bit of an oversight on my part. I based 12 seconds off of my hair. Well my hair is quite fine and the heat comes through fairly quickly. So a better way to determine when you should pull the curling iron out is by quickly checking the surface of the hair that is wrapped in the iron. If the heat has passed through you should not be able to hold your finger there (do not burn yourself) but if you can hold your finger to the hair without feeling like its hot then the heat has not completely transferred and therefore the curl is not ready. Keep tapping the hair and when you can no longer hold your finger there pull the curling iron out. This timing will be different for everyone depending on how much hair you have wrapped around the iron.

  4. Product is your best friend when trying to achieve some lasting and smooth curls.

  5. Brushing out the curls gives it a softer look.
